Description & Benefits
MultiSoft™ water softeners with Ecomix®-C are a truly unique and revolutionary option for the treatment of problem water containing hardness and high levels of iron and manganese. The unique Ecomix®-C media is resistant to iron and manganese fouling that destroys most other softeners. MultiSoft™ water softeners can also remove low levels of tannins and organics. MultiSoft™ is capable of treating all of these contaminants simultaneously. Competitors generally require multiple pieces of equipment to accomplish the same treatment - this is much more expensive and wastes both water and salt.
The key to our MultiSoft™ systems is Ecomix®-C, an advanced adsorption and ion-exchange media from Europe which is designed specifically for the concurrent treatment of high levels of hardness, iron, manganese, and low levels of tannins, and organics. Ecomix®-C contains a blend of 5 different water treatment media, including FerroSorb® and HumiSorb®, unique patented technologies for the treatment of iron and organics, respectively!
- Multi-function capability
- Capable of treating far higher iron and manganese levels than conventional water softeners
- Concurrent removal of low levels of tannins and other organics to improve color, clarity, and taste
- Effective treatment of many organic iron problems
- More cost effective than individual treatment options for each contaminant
- Cost-effective and long-lasting media (5 to 10 years)
- Metered regeneration for water and salt efficiency
- Simple, automated regeneration with high salt efficiency keeps the media clean and operating efficiently
- Simple operation with no day-to-day maintenance
- Brand-name digital control valve (Fleck 5800SXT) with simple programming and operation
- Great warranty (5 years on control valve, 10 years on tank)
- Bypass included
Ideal for the treatment of well water, spring water, and surface water (lakes, streams, and rivers).
- Prevent unsightly staining
- Remove color caused by tannins and organics
- Improve the taste of your drinking water
- Improve water heater efficiency and life
- Prevent clogging of pipes and faucets
- Prevent pressure loss and staining
- Reduce mineral build-up and stains in dishwasher
- Prevent stains and damage to laundry
- Extend appliance life and performance
Water hardness causes unsightly spots on dishes and glass shower doors; mineral build-up in appliances, on faucets, and in shower heads; reduces the performance of soaps and detergents; and often leaves laundry dingy and your skin and hair dry and dull. Hard water scale also reduces the life and efficiency of your water heater, one of the largest consumers of energy in your home.
Iron and manganese cause stains in your tub and toilet, dishwasher and other appliances, and leave laundry stained and dull. They also impart an unpleasant taste and cause discoloration.
Tannins and organics cause discoloration of the water, cause unpleasant odors and tastes, and reduce the effectiveness of disinfection by both ultraviolet light and chlorination.
Ecomix® is unique as compared to traditional water softening media in that it can treat much higher levels of iron and manganese without the risk of fouling while at the same time removing low levels of naturally occurring organics that interfere with disinfection and discolor the water.
Smart technology for high salt efficiency...
All MultiSoft™ systems are optimally designed and pre-programmed to ensure that you can achieve peak performance and salt efficiency.
Like all water softeners, MultiSoft™ systems are designed to automatically backwash and regenerate periodically, ejecting trapped sediment and particulates and restore media capacity. This process is controlled by the Fleck 5800 SXT digital control valve and is generally programmed to occur in the middle of the night (fully adjustable) when you are not likely to be using any water. The system uses a sophisticated controller which calculates the optimal time to regenerate the system based on the system capacity, your water consumption patterns, your water use, and contaminant levels. In many cases, our customers have replaced their older water softeners with a MultiSoft™ system and been able to reduce their salt consumption by more than 50%!
How MultiSoft™ Works - 3 Systems in One!
The heart of all of our MultiSoft™ treatment systems is the revolutionary Ecomix®-C media:
Ecomix®-C is an advanced adsorption and ion-exchange media designed specifically for the concurrent treatment of high levels of hardness, iron, and manganese, and low levels of tannins/organics. Ecomix® can treat much higher levels of iron and manganese than traditional ion-exchange media used for water softening without the risk of fouling while at the same time removing naturally occurring organics that interfere with disinfection and discolor the water.
Ecomix® is supplied in bags of carefully proportioned media that will automatically arrange themselves into the 5 treatment layers upon the initiation of the first backwash. This reduces time required to load the media into the treatment tank as the individual layers do not need to be loaded one at a time.
Inert Resin Reduces oxidized iron and some particulate. |
|
FerroSorb® Removes dissolved iron and manganese to prevent staining and improve taste. |
|
HumiSorb® Reduces tannins and other organics to improve color, clarity, and taste. |
|
Cation Exchange Resin Softens the water to prevent hard water scale. |
|
Quartz Gravel Prevents chanelling and ensures uniform water flow through the system. |
The key to the performance of Ecomix®-C is its unique patented FerroSorb® and HumiSorb® layers.
Ecomix®-C removes dissolved (ferrous), oxidized (ferric), organic, and colloidal forms of iron as well as manganese through a combination of adsorption, oxidation, active layer formation and autocatalytic oxidation. The maximum recommended raw water iron level is 5 ppm (mg/l) and manganese should not exceed 2 ppm (mg/l).
Ecomix®-C removes natural organic matter and tannins primarily through adsorption and anion exchange. The maximum recommended concentration of natural organic matter (total organic carbon) is 5 ppm (mg/l) of which 2 ppm (mg/l) can be tannins.
Water softening is accomplished by cation exchange in exactly the same manner as a traditional water softener. The minerals responsible for hardness, including calcium and magnesium, are attracted to the surface of the resin media. When the capacity of the resin is used up, the system regenerates using salt. The sodium ions in the salt brine solution replace the calcium and magnesium ions on the resin and they are washed down the drain, thereby restoring the full capacity of the resin. The regeneration process is completely automated and all MultiSoft™ systems are optimally designed and pre-programmed to ensure that you can achieve peak performance and salt efficiency. Ecomix®-C will consume only about 6.3 lbs of salt per cubic foot of media in each regeneration. Ecomix®-C has a softening capacity of about 13,000 grain per cubic foot. Sizing is generally based on softening capacity required irrespective of the iron, manganese, tannin, and organics level.
The ion-exchange properties of the media will result in a small increase in the sodium content of the treated water. Individuals who have high blood pressure or those concerned about their sodium intake due to other heath issues, can add a small drinking water reverse osmosis system under their kitchen sink to produce sodium-free drinking water.
MultiSoft™ Sizing Guide
Optimal sizing of a MultiSoft™ water softener is a function of:
- your contaminant level (primarily hardness)
- your peak water flow rate (the highest flow rate of water than you use per minute)
- the amount of water you use (overall consumption per day)
The capacity of a water softener is stated in "Grains" and in "Gallons Per Minute." "Grains" refers to the amount of hardness it can remove before it needs to be regenerated, and the "Gallons Per Minute" is the maximum flow rate of water it can handle at a given time and still produce well treated water.
