ecoPLUS™ is a modular treatment system allowing you to conveniently add additional treatment to improve the microbiological safety of your water.
Optional Microbiological Protection
With the infrastructure of cities all over North America crumbling under neglect and budget constraints, many customers have asked us if there was a product that they could add to their system that would provide them with additional insurance and peace-of-mind against the possibility of a failure of their municipal water treatment system. These concerns have arisen due to several high-profile cases of contamination in city water supplies across the continent, some of which have resulted in illness and even death. All of our ecoPLUS™ systems can be equipped with an ultraviolet light (UV) to sterilize bacteria, viruses, and other illness-causing microorganisms which could be present in your water. UV disinfection is safe, effective, economical, and best of all, does not add undesirable chemicals to your water like chlorine or chloramine. We offer a superior UV system with colour LCD display at a lower price than our competitors - simply better value.
How our ecoPLUS™ EP-600-TAC Works
The heart of all of our ecoPLUS™ premium water treatment systems is our ecoPLUS treatment tank which contains an optimal blend of water treatment media for wide-spectrum contaminant removal. To this, we add our ecoTAC salt-free hard water treatment technology to prevent mineral scale.
The first step of our ecoPLUS system is a true high capacity, multi-gradient sediment filter. It is like having 4 sediment filters in one! The filter cartridge has 4 layers that provide progressively finer filtration down to 5 microns. Our filter has far higher capacity than our competitors, thereby reducing the frequency that you have to change filters and saving you money. Our pre-filter also provides better flow rates and less pressure loss!
A proper gravel underbed distributes water flow evenly to prevent channeling in the filtration media.
KDF-55 Media - a generous layer of KDF-55, a patented zinc/copper redox media that removes or reduces a wide range of contaminants including chlorine, as well as water soluble heavy metals such as lead, copper, mercury, and chromium. KDF-55 extends the life of the activated carbon media and has a bacteriostatic effect that reduces the risk of bacterial, algae, and fungal fouling.
Brand-name, Calgon coconut shell activated carbon for the removal of chlorine, disinfection by-products, a wide range of volatile organic compounds (such as pesticides, herbicides, and chemical residuals), as well as a host of other contaminants that adversely affect the taste and smell of your water.
True Centaur catalytic activated carbon to extend media life and enhance removal of chloramine, organics, and an even wider range of contaminants that impact the taste and smell of your water.
Freeboard provides expansion room for the water filtration media during upflow service.
ecoTAC™ salt-free hard water conditioners use a highly specialized media consisting of polymeric beads which serve as a powerful catalyst for the formation of nano-crystals of calcium and magnesium carbonate that remain suspended in solution instead of forming hard mineral scale on surfaces. This process is called Template Assisted Crystallization, or "TAC," (sometimes referred to as Nucleation Assisted Crystallization or "NAC") and is widely recognized as the most effective form of alternative hard water treatment.
The result is fresh, great tasting water at every tap, silky soft skin and hair when you bathe and shower.
The water flow path through our ecoPLUS™ system is upflow. This prevents clogging and eliminates the risk of channeling, a phenomenon that reduces the contact time between the media and the contaminants that negatively impacts performance of many downflow systems.
The media bed in our ecoPLUS™ EP-600 series filters is designed to provide effective chlorine reduction over a life of 600,000 gallons or 5 years, after which the media in the tank can be replaced in about half an hour without any plumbing knowledge or special experience - anyone can do it. The current market leader in premium whole house filter systems suggests that this process is difficult - they just want to convince you to buy their expensive replacement tanks. Replacing the media in our tanks is not only easier and far more economical, it is better for the environment too.
More about TAC hard water conditioning...
Our ecoTAC™ salt-free hard water conditioners are an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional water softeners in preventing hard water mineral scale from coating surfaces inside your plumbing system, water heater, dishwasher, and other appliances. Unlike a traditional water softener, ecoTAC™ conditioners do not require regeneration with salt, backwashing, or an expensive electronic control valve. Accordingly, they require almost no maintenance and are easier to install.
- Environmentally friendly
- Simple operation with no day-to-day maintenance
- No salt, no chemical regeneration, and no brine discharge!
- No backwash - save thousands of gallons of water per year
- Does not remove beneficial minerals
The nucleation sites on the TAC media attract calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate ions. At these template sites, these building blocks of mineral scale combine to form microscopic (nanometer-sized) calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate crystals. However, instead of forming typical calcite crystals (normal mineral scale), the template surface guides the formation of a crystal structure that does not stick to surfaces. As the crystals grow, they break off and become suspended in the water stream. Since this crystalline form is stable, it does not easily revert back to its dissolved form or stick to surfaces. If the water is allowed to evaporate on a surface (such as a glass shower screen), the crystals will be deposited and leave spots on the glass since the minerals are not actually removed; however, they should be easy to wipe away as they will not stick to the surface. TAC is often described as being a "salt-free water softener" by our competitors. Since the minerals which cause hardness are not actually removed, we don't believe this to be an accurate description of the technology. Nevertheless, there is little doubt that TAC is the most effective salt-free hard water conditioning technology currently available.
When water begins to flow into the bottom of the treatment tank, the TAC media is lifted and dispersed throughout the treatment tank in a fluidized bed; this enhances contact with the calcium and magnesium ions in the water. A contact time of only about 5 seconds is required for the treatment of up to 25 grain per gallon (approx. 425 ppm or mg/l) of hardness. Since the system is operated in a fluidized upflow configuration, the system will not clog with sediment and no backwashing is required.
As an added benefit, during the first few weeks after the installation of an ecoTAC™ conditioner, a de-scaling effect (where existing hard water scale build-up in the plumbing system is released) will often occur. Over time, this added benefit will enhance performance of water heating equipment and restore flow performance of plumbing fixtures.
A study conducted in 2011 by Arizona State University entitled, "Evaluation of Alternatives to Domestic Ion Exchange Water Softeners," backed these results. It determined that TAC technology was the most effective of all non-salt water conditioners at preventing mineral scale, with reduction levels consistently in excess of 90%. The results showed that TAC conditioners were far more effective than magnetic and electronic water conditioners at preventing hard water scale formation. This study also used the DVGW Standard W512 test protocol.
The only required maintenance is replacing the TAC media roughly every 4 to 5 years when treating municipally-supplied water. Some competitors suggest that their TAC media can last even longer, which is generally unrealistic. We would rather give you honest expectations based on real-life typical conditions, not overly-optimistic expectations that only a few people will experience. The replacement of the TAC media is simple and only takes about 30 minutes.
Comparison to Competitors
Our top competitors build good products, but if you take the time to compare, we are confident that you will see where our commitment to effective and efficient design (and the extras we offer free with each system) provide you with a simply superior product at a more economical price.
With ecoPLUS™, you will Pay Less and Get More - we guarantee it!
Many of our top competitors over-inflate their prices only to offer special "discounts" that can change day-by-day and even hour by hour. Their pricing policy is designed to reduce your ability to comparison shop and create a sense of urgency to buy while a sale lasts. We believe you should have the time to research our products, compare, and make an informed buying decision on your schedule, and for the same everyday low price with no surprises. We also offer 90 day price protection on all ecoPLUS™ systems, and we will beat any competitor's price on a comparable product, so you can buy with confidence that you are getting the best value for your hard earned dollar.
